Nimbochromis linni "Nkhata Bay" is the Nkhata Bay population of Nimbochromis linni, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Nimbochromis linni, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Nimbochromis linni is a predatory Lake Malawi cichlid known from a scatter of island and reef localities running most of the length of the lake, from Chizumulu Island in the north to Boadzulu Island in the south. It belongs to Nimbochromis, a genus of large, mottled ambush hunters whose blotched, camouflage-like colouration gives several of its members the nickname 'sleeper cichlids' — some, most famously N. livingstonii, are documented lying motionless on the sand to lure small fish close before striking. As a full member of that genus, N. linni shares the basic body plan and predatory lifestyle even where its own specific behaviour has not been separately studied in detail.
