Attonitus is a small genus of characins (tetras and their relatives) known only from Peru in the atlas, where all three species are modest fish of roughly 1–2 in. As with many recently delineated Amazonian tetra genera, published biology for Attonitus is limited - habitat, diet, and behavior are not well documented outside the technical taxonomic literature, and none of the three species carries a common name in general use.
Conservation assessments are similarly thin: two species are Least Concern and one is Not Evaluated, and none appears in the aquarium trade or in any CARES conservation-breeding program. This is a genus of essentially scientific interest at present, cataloged as part of the broader effort to document Peru's exceptionally diverse tetra fauna rather than a fish hobbyists are likely to encounter.
