Sykes described the species in 1839 from the Bheema River near Pairgaon, Maharashtra, India. FishBase uses the common name Vatani rohtee.
Morphology
A silvery, laterally compressed, deep-bodied cyprinid. FishBase gives a maximum of 19.5 in TL, which is large for the genus.
Habitat
FishBase lists it as a freshwater, benthopelagic, tropical fish of India that inhabits fast-flowing streams and rivers. Temperature, pH and hardness are not recorded.
