Semiplotus semiplotus is a cyprinid of the Brahmaputra basin, described by McClelland in 1839 from the rapids of the Brahmaputra in Upper Assam. Stores have sold it under the name Cyprinion semiplotum, its original genus.

Taxonomy & naming

McClelland described the species in 1839 as Cyprinion semiplotum from the rapids of the Brahmaputra River in Upper Assam, India. It is now placed in Semiplotus and the authority is in parentheses. Wet Spot sold it under the old combination Cyprinion semiplotum, which is an outdated name for this fish.
