Bryconaethiops is another African tetra genus in family Alestidae, recorded in the atlas from Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, and Zambia - a spread across the Congo basin and beyond. The atlas's size range for the genus, 1–10 in, is unusually wide, reflecting real variation among the described species rather than a single uniform body size; some members grow well past typical small-tetra dimensions.
Bryconaethiops boulengeri, Boulenger's featherfin tetra, is the species most likely to be recognized by name, though the genus as a whole remains a minor presence in the aquarium trade compared with well-known Congo basin relatives. Conservation status is mixed across the five atlas species - two Least Concern, two Not Evaluated, and one Endangered - a signal that at least one member of this data-sparse genus faces real pressure even though the group overall has drawn little formal assessment.
