Pseudecheneis likimroensis was described in 2026 by Y. Shekhumcha, P. Singh, Limatemjen and L. Kosygin in the Journal of Ichthyology, from the Likimro River in Kiphire District, Nagaland, northeast India. It belongs to the family Sisoridae, subfamily Glyptosterninae, within the genus Pseudecheneis — the "sucker-throat catfishes," torrent-adapted sisorids of the Himalaya and adjoining hill ranges with an oval thoracic adhesive disc used to hold position in fast current.
The holotype (ZSI FF 10918) and four paratypes (ZSI FF 10919) were collected from the Likimro River, a tributary of the Tizu River within the Chindwin River basin, at 25°46'20"N, 94°49'44"E and an elevation of about 1,463 ft. The Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, California Academy of Sciences) records Pseudecheneis likimroensis Shekhumcha, Singh, Limatemjen & Kosygin, 2026 as the valid, currently accepted name.
