Episemion is a small genus of West African killifish, native to forest streams in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The atlas's 2 species are diminutive, running under 1.5 in, and share the elongate body and terminal, slightly upturned mouth typical of small surface-oriented killifish that pick insects and other tiny invertebrates from the water's surface in shaded rainforest creeks.
The genus has little to no presence in the aquarium hobby and is known mainly from the taxonomic and ichthyological literature rather than fishkeeping circles; detailed care information is essentially unavailable outside specialist collections. One of the two species is listed Least Concern, the other Not Evaluated, consistent with a genus that has drawn limited conservation attention so far.
