Hongshuia is a small genus of barb-like cyprinids endemic to river systems of southern China, its name referencing the Hongshui River that drains part of the karst country spanning Guangxi and Guizhou. Like many of the small cyprinids described from this limestone region in recent decades, Hongshuia species are modest in size, running roughly 2–2.5 in, and adapted to the clear, often rocky streams typical of southern Chinese karst drainages. Hongshuia boulobos and Hongshuia wangi make up the genus, and detailed data on their specific habitat preferences and behavior remain sparse.
Hongshuia has no established presence in the aquarium trade and is known essentially only from the scientific literature describing it. Both species are currently Not Evaluated by the IUCN, which is common among China's many recently described small-stream cyprinids, whose conservation status has often not yet caught up with their formal taxonomic description.
