Kolpotocheirodon is a small genus of characid tetras in the Cheirodontinae, the miniature-tetra lineage that includes many of the diminutive, glassy-bodied fish sold in the aquarium trade under names like Serrapinnus or Odontostilbe. Recorded in the atlas from Brazil and Peru, its two species run roughly 1–2 in and share the compact, laterally compressed body, small teeth, and translucent colouration typical of the group - small schooling fish suited to slow, vegetated stretches of South American lowland rivers and streams.
Kolpotocheirodon figueiredoi and K. theloura are not established, named aquarium imports; the genus appears to be a comparatively recent taxonomic addition, and both species are currently Not Evaluated by the IUCN rather than assessed as any level of concern. As with many small, recently characterized cheirodontine tetras, detailed habitat and life-history data are sparse, and the genus is best understood for now as a subject of ichthyological rather than hobby interest.
