Liniparhomaloptera is a genus of hillstream loaches in the family Balitoridae, found in fast-flowing streams across parts of China, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The atlas covers 5 species, small fish around 2.5–3 in, including Liniparhomaloptera disparis, Liniparhomaloptera macrostoma, Liniparhomaloptera monoloba, Liniparhomaloptera obtusirostris, and Liniparhomaloptera qiongzhongensis. Like other balitorids, they show the classic hillstream body plan: a dorsoventrally flattened body and paired fins spread wide to form a low-drag, suction-assisted profile that lets them cling to smooth rock in strong current rather than being swept downstream.
This is a data-sparse genus with little to no established presence in the aquarium trade; what is known comes mainly from regional stream surveys and taxonomic descriptions rather than fishkeeping experience. The mix of statuses recorded in the atlas, including one species assessed Vulnerable alongside Not Evaluated and Data Deficient entries, is consistent with a group of narrow-range, fast-water specialists in a part of Asia where stream habitat is under real pressure from damming, sedimentation, and water extraction, even where formal assessment has not caught up with every species.
Hillstream loaches of this kind require highly oxygenated, well-filtered water with strong flow to thrive, conditions that mirror the swift streams the genus is adapted to and that make them a poor fit for a typical still-water community tank.
