Myxiops is a genus of small tetras in family Characidae, the vast Neotropical family that includes most of the aquarium hobby's classic tetras. The two atlas species, M. aphos and M. pelecus, are known from Brazil and are modest in size, at 2–2.5 in, consistent with many characid genera restricted to specific river drainages rather than spread across the continent. Detailed information on the genus's precise habitat and behavior stays sparse outside the technical taxonomic literature that first described it.
Myxiops has no meaningful presence in the aquarium trade - it is one of the many small Brazilian tetra genera that circulate only among specialists and researchers rather than through the ornamental fish trade. Of the two atlas species, one is assessed as Least Concern and the other has Not Evaluated status, so the conservation picture for the genus as a whole remains incomplete.
