Taxonomy & naming

This is an undescribed form: no scientific name, authority or type material stands behind it, and its identity and range are not documented in the sources the atlas uses. L231 is an L-number, the coding system DATZ magazine began in 1988 for imported loricariids that could not be identified. Wet Spot lists the fish as Hypostomus gomezi. No valid species of that name exists, and the corydoras of similar epithet, Corydoras gomezi, is an unrelated catfish.

Morphology

Wet Spot gives no description of the fish. Hypostomus are robust, heavy-bodied plecos with a broad head and a sucker mouth (genus-level).

Habitat

No collection locality is given in the listing. Hypostomus is a widespread South American genus found in rivers and streams across most of the continent (genus-level).

Feeding

Hypostomus graze algae, biofilm and detritus from hard surfaces (genus-level); this form's diet is not documented.

Mating

Hypostomus spawn in burrows or cavities, where the male guards the eggs (genus-level). Spawning of this form is not documented.

Breeding

No captive-breeding record for this form is held by the atlas.

In the aquarium

The listing carries no size, water or care figures. Many Hypostomus grow large and need roomy tanks with wood and caves (genus-level).

Conservation

No IUCN assessment exists for this undescribed form. Its range and numbers are not documented, so its conservation status cannot be stated.
