Sartor is another genus of Parodontidae, the scrapetooth characins, restricted to Brazil in the atlas records. Species in this family are rheophiles - rapids specialists - sharing the flattened head and grazing, algae-scraping dentition of related genera such as Saccodon and Parodon, adapted for holding position and feeding on submerged rock in fast current. They are small-bodied, atlas species running 3–4.5 in.
Little is documented about Sartor outside taxonomic literature, and it has no presence in the aquarium trade. The conservation picture is more troubling than for most parodontids: the brief's tally is 1 Data Deficient, 1 Least Concern, and 1 Endangered. The name of S. tucuruiensis points to the Tucuruí stretch of the Tocantins River, a system reshaped by large hydroelectric dams that flooded long runs of historic rapids habitat - a plausible pressure on a rheophilic specialist, though the exact cause of its Endangered listing is not stated in the atlas record.
