The Chinyamwezi Island population

Chindongo cyaneus "Chinyamwezi Island" is the Chinyamwezi Island population of Chindongo cyaneus, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Chindongo cyaneus, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Chindongo cyaneus is a dwarf mbuna of Lake Malawi whose Latin/Greek-derived name, "blue," points squarely at its dominant body colour — a common theme among the small rock-dwelling grazers of Chindongo, the genus carved out of the old Pseudotropheus in 2016. It is documented from Chinyamwezi Island in the southern part of the lake, the same island that hosts the equally undocumented Chindongo ater.
