About the species
Chindongo sp. "Perspicax Yellow Breast" is an undescribed mbuna recorded at Pombo Rocks, on the Tanzanian shore of Lake Malawi. It has no formal scientific name. The trade tag borrows its first word from Pseudotropheus perspicax, a small rock-dwelling mbuna documented along the lake’s west-central Malawian shore, and adds a colour qualifier for a yellow-flushed breast reported on nuptial males of this particular population. Whether the Pombo Rocks fish is the same species found far from its known range, or simply a similarly patterned relative, is not established. It is filed under Chindongo — the genus Ad Konings split from Pseudotropheus in 2016 — in the field and hobby literature this account draws on, and it awaits formal description.
