The Gome population

Copadichromis sp. "Yellow Jumbo" "Gome" is the Gome population of Copadichromis sp. "Yellow Jumbo", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the south-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Copadichromis sp. "Yellow Jumbo", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Copadichromis sp. "Yellow Jumbo" is an undescribed Copadichromis population recorded at Gome, a well-documented reef on the southern Malawi shore that has produced several distinct named cichlid forms, including a cluster of Copadichromis virginalis-complex populations examined in detail by Ad Konings. The trade name's second word suggests a large-bodied form relative to typical utaka, but no formal description or dedicated field study of this population has been published, so its exact size, colour pattern in full, and its relationship to Gome's other Copadichromis forms are not established.
