Lethrinops sp. "Red Cap" "Mdoka" is the Mdoka population of Lethrinops sp. "Red Cap", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the far northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Lethrinops sp. "Red Cap", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Lethrinops sp. "Red Cap" is an undescribed sand-dwelling cichlid from the far northern part of Lake Malawi, recorded from Chewere, Mdoka, and Itungi along the lake's northern shoreline. Its trade name follows a familiar convention in Malawi cichlid keeping — a patch of red or orange colour on the crown of the head in breeding males — though, as with most undescribed Lethrinops, the fine detail of its colour pattern has not been formally documented and should be read as inferred from the name rather than confirmed by a published account.
