Melanochromis lepidiadaptes "Makanjila Point" is the Makanjila Point population of Melanochromis lepidiadaptes, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the south-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Melanochromis lepidiadaptes, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Melanochromis lepidiadaptes is a small rock-dwelling mbuna cichlid known from a single rocky promontory on Lake Malawi's eastern shore. Its name advertises its oddest trait: a habit of rasping scales from other fishes, a feeding mode rare among Malawi cichlids and one the species combines with raiding the eggs and larvae of a large catfish. With a wild range of only a dozen square kilometres, it is also one of the lake's most narrowly distributed cichlids and a textbook case of a fish whose conservation hinges on a single reef.
