The Lyamembe population
Neolamprologus longior "Lyamembe" is the Lyamembe population of Neolamprologus longior, a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Tanganyika in the north-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Neolamprologus longior, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Neolamprologus longior is a small, golden rock-dwelling cichlid endemic to the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, where it tucks itself into crevices in the sediment-dusted rocky littoral. Long treated as a stretched-out subspecies of the famous lemon cichlid (Neolamprologus leleupi), it is now recognized by the Catalog of Fishes as a full species, even though much of the trade still sells it under the leleupi name. The simplest field mark is in its name: longior means 'longer,' and this fish is the slimmer, more elongate cousin of a deeper-bodied look-alike.
