The Kambwimba population
Neolamprologus prochilus "Kambwimba" is the Kambwimba population of Neolamprologus prochilus, a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Tanganyika in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Neolamprologus prochilus, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Neolamprologus prochilus is a secretive, cave-dwelling cichlid endemic to the southern, Zambian end of Lake Tanganyika. It is the largest member of its genus, reaching about 7 in (17 cm), yet it is rarely seen even by divers because it spends its life deep inside the dark crevices of the rocky shore. Its most striking feature is a set of enormous, highly protrusible jaws that it uses to vacuum invertebrates out of cracks, an adaptation that gives it an uncanny resemblance to the unrelated Altolamprologus through convergent evolution.
