Nyassachromis serenus "Yofu Bay" is the Yofu Bay population of Nyassachromis serenus, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Nyassachromis serenus, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Nyassachromis serenus is a slender, sand-associated haplochromine cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi, its species name — Latin for "calm" or "serene" — hinting at a subdued temperament or muted colouration typical of the genus's open-water shoalers. Like its relatives it is expected to school over sandy shallows and pick zooplankton from the water column, and it is documented here from Mbenji Island and Yofu Bay, two sites that together span a considerable stretch of the lake's central-western shore.
