Otopharynx sp. "Red Flat-jaw" "Kadango" is the Kadango population of Otopharynx sp. "Red Flat-jaw", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Otopharynx sp. "Red Flat-jaw", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Otopharynx sp. "Red Flat-jaw" is an undescribed cichlid recorded at Kadango, on the south-eastern arm of Lake Malawi. Its trade name places it among a small group of Otopharynx forms distinguished by a flattened, protruding lower jaw, with "Red" marking the breeding-male colour that separates this Kadango population from the blue-toned flat-jaw forms recorded at other localities around the lake.
