About the species
Pseudotropheus sp. "Lucerna Blue Mozambique" is an undescribed mbuna cichlid documented along the Mozambique shore of Lake Malawi, around Chuanga and Metangula, with a further record at Gome on the Malawian side. Its trade name flags the two features aquarists have used to identify it — a "lucerna" designation used elsewhere in the mbuna trade and the deep blue ground colour of breeding males — but the fish has never been given a formal scientific description, and no authority, IUCN status, or FishBase entry should be attached to it.
