Pseudotropheus sp. "Lucerna Brown" "Mphande Island" is the Mphande Island population of Pseudotropheus sp. "Lucerna Brown", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Pseudotropheus sp. "Lucerna Brown", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Pseudotropheus sp. "Lucerna Brown" is an undescribed mbuna cichlid documented from Mphande Island in the southern reaches of Lake Malawi. Its trade name flags two things aquarists and field workers have used to identify it — a "lucerna" designation shared with a small group of related trade-named Pseudotropheus, and a brown ground colour that sets it apart from the blue-toned "Lucerna" forms recorded elsewhere in the lake. It has never been given a formal scientific description; no authority, IUCN status, or FishBase entry should be attached to it.
