Pseudotropheus sp. "Red Top Ndumbi" "Pombo Rocks" is the Pombo Rocks population of Pseudotropheus sp. "Red Top Ndumbi", a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Malawi in the northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Pseudotropheus sp. "Red Top Ndumbi", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Pseudotropheus sp. "Red Top Ndumbi" is an undescribed mbuna recorded from Ndumbi Point and neighbouring Pombo Rocks on the Tanzanian shore in the north of Lake Malawi. Its trade name follows one of the most familiar naming patterns in the Malawi mbuna hobby: a "red top," a vivid orange-to-red blaze across the dorsal fin set against a blue body, a pattern repeated with local variation by many unrelated rock-dwelling cichlids around the lake. It is recognised informally in the field and aquarium literature, and no authority, year, FishBase number, or IUCN status should ever be attached to it.
