The South East Arm population

Rhamphochromis sp. "Longfin" "South East Arm" is the South East Arm population of Rhamphochromis sp. "Longfin", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Rhamphochromis sp. "Longfin", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Rhamphochromis sp. "Longfin" is an undescribed open-water predatory cichlid recorded from the South East Arm of Lake Malawi, one of many working forms field workers use to sort the genus's notoriously hard-to-key pike-like fish. It carries Rhamphochromis's diagnostic beak-like, forward-projecting jaw and elongate, torpedo-shaped body, and its trade name flags extended fin rays as the character that separates it in the field from other South East Arm Rhamphochromis. No authority, description or conservation status attaches to it.
