Stigmatochromis macrorhynchos "Mumbo Island" is the Mumbo Island population of Stigmatochromis macrorhynchos, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Stigmatochromis macrorhynchos, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Stigmatochromis macrorhynchos is a predatory haplochromine cichlid documented from the rocky waters around Mumbo Island, inside Lake Malawi National Park. Its epithet, "large-snouted," points to an elongated jaw suited to seizing prey, a hallmark of the ambush-hunting Stigmatochromis, a genus whose best-known member is famous for a startling hunting trick — lying motionless on its side to mimic a dead fish and lure scavengers within striking range.
