Trematocranus brevirostris "South East Arm" is the South East Arm population of Trematocranus brevirostris, a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Trematocranus brevirostris, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Trematocranus brevirostris is a small haplochromine cichlid documented from the South East Arm of Lake Malawi. It belongs to a genus best known for one of the lake's most specialised feeding tricks — extracting the soft body of a snail whole from its shell without breaking it — and its own epithet, "short-snouted," marks it out from its genus-mates by proportion of jaw rather than by colour.
