The Mumbo Island population
Tropheops sp. "Mumbo" "Mumbo Island" is the Mumbo Island population of Tropheops sp. "Mumbo", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Tropheops sp. "Mumbo", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Tropheops sp. "Mumbo" is an undescribed mbuna recorded from Mumbo Island, part of the Nankumba Peninsula island group within Lake Malawi National Park in the southern lake. The trade name simply carries the collection locality, distinguishing it from the many other Tropheops forms and populations of separately described Tropheops species also recorded from the same well-studied Cape Maclear-area islands. It has no authority, no publication year, no FishBase number, and no IUCN assessment.
