The Gome population

Tropheops sp. "Yellow Gular" "Gome" is the Gome population of Tropheops sp. "Yellow Gular", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the south-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Tropheops sp. "Yellow Gular", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Tropheops sp. 'yellow gular' is an undescribed rock mbuna from the Makanjila reef cluster in southeastern Lake Malawi, named for a yellow patch on the throat (the gular region) of territorial males. It shares its core locality cluster — Chiofu, Gome and Ntekete — with the undescribed Placidochromis sp. 'phenochilus gissel' and Mylochromis sp. 'lateristriga makanjila,' making this stretch of reef unusually well documented for undescribed forms across several genera. It has not been formally described.
