Tominanga is a small genus of rainbowfish-relatives endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia, part of the distinctive radiation of telmatherinid and related fishes found only on that island's ancient lake and river systems. The atlas's two species, Tominanga aurea and Tominanga sanguicauda, are modest in size at around 2 in and, like other Sulawesi endemics, are restricted to a narrow home range rather than being widespread across the island.
Both species are classified as Near Threatened, consistent with the broader conservation concern surrounding Sulawesi's endemic freshwater fauna, which faces pressure from habitat disturbance, sedimentation, and introduced species in a region where many fish exist nowhere else on Earth. Tominanga is mostly of interest to dedicated Sulawesi and rainbowfish specialists rather than the mainstream aquarium trade; detailed husbandry information is sparse, and most available accounts come from biogeographic and taxonomic rather than aquarium literature.
