Glyptothorax intonsus was described in 2026 by Heok Hee Ng and Maurice Kottelat in the Journal of Fish Biology, from a small forest stream in the Nam Mang watershed of the middle Mekong River drainage, Vientiane Province, Laos. It belongs to the family Sisoridae — the Asian torrent catfishes — within the subfamily Sisorinae and the large genus Glyptothorax. The Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, California Academy of Sciences) treats Glyptothorax intonsus as the valid, currently accepted name.
The type series — a holotype and four paratypes — was collected from a small forest stream along the road from Ban Pak Leuk to Ban Longxam, a headwater of the Nam Leuk catchment within the Nam Mang watershed, at roughly 1444 ft elevation (18°27'05"N, 103°04'06"E). Morphology
According to the published abstract, Glyptothorax intonsus is distinguished from all other Glyptothorax in the Mekong drainage by a combination of characters: very long nasal barbels, distinctive head and body proportions, features of the thoracic adhesive apparatus and lateral line, colouration, and body tuberculation (small tubercle-like projections on the skin). Beyond this list, the exact measurements, colour pattern and tuberculation details are reported only in the full paper text, which was not accessible for this article.
No maximum size in centimetres is stated in the abstract. Like other Glyptothorax, the species can be expected to have the genus's flattened, torrent-adapted body and scaleless skin — a genus-level generality, not a specific observation.

Glyptothorax intonsus is not present in the aquarium trade — it is known only from a small scientific type series collected in Laos. Were it ever to appear in the trade, the standard approach for small hillstream Glyptothorax would apply: strong current, high dissolved oxygen, cool to moderate water, and smooth cobble the fish can grip with its thoracic adhesive apparatus. As with all Sisoridae, the skin is scaleless, so medications should be dosed conservatively, and the fish should be moved in a container rather than netted. These are genus-level cautions, not species-specific data.
Conservation
Glyptothorax intonsus has not been assessed by the IUCN Red List and carries a status of Not Evaluated, as expected for a species described in 2026. It is currently known only from a single forest-stream locality in the Nam Mang watershed of Vientiane Province, Laos.
