Gastromyzon sp. "SK02" is an undescribed hillstream loach that Dan's Fish sells as the red tail hillstream loach, a wild-caught Bornean fish with red on the tail fin.

Taxonomy & naming

This is an undescribed form: no scientific name, authority or type material stands behind it, and its identity and range are not documented in the sources the atlas uses. "SK02" is a hobby collection label. Retailers file the form as Gastromyzon sp. SK02 and sell it as the red tail.

Morphology

Dan's Fish describes a loach with a splash of red on the tail fin. Gastromyzon are small hillstream loaches of Borneo with a flattened body and broad paired fins that act as a sucker on rocks in fast water (genus-level).

Habitat

Retailers state that it comes from the headwaters of the Sungai Amandit, in the Barito basin of South Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. No habitat measurements are recorded. Hillstream loaches live in cool, fast, rocky streams (genus-level).

Feeding

Gastromyzon graze algae and the small animals living in the biofilm on stones (genus-level); the seller gives no diet for this form.

Mating

Spawning of this form is not documented.

Breeding

No captive-breeding record for this form is held by the atlas. Dan's Fish lists the stock as harvested from nature.

In the aquarium

Dan's Fish ships fish of about 1.25 to 1.75 in and gives an adult size of around 2.5 to 3 in. It describes hillstream loaches as needing flowing, well-oxygenated water, with surfaces to cling to.
