Taxonomy & naming
Koima remadevii was described by C. P. Shaji in 2002, placed from the outset in the genus Mesonoemacheilus, a member of the family Nemacheilidae — the stone or brook loaches, the largest family of true loaches and a group defined chiefly by molecular and fine anatomical characters rather than anything dramatic to the eye. Mesonoemacheilus is endemic to India's Western Ghats and currently holds around ten recognised species, several of them, like this one, known from a single river system.
The genus is distinguished within Nemacheilidae by details such as its two pairs of rostral barbels being confluent at their bases — a technical character rather than a field mark, underscoring how much loach taxonomy in this family rests on close examination rather than colour pattern. The Catalog of Fishes governs the valid combination, and it is retained here as Koima remadevii; no synonymy or generic reassignment is noted in the sources consulted.

Morphology
Like its Western Ghats relatives, K. remadevii is a small, elongate, cylindrical loach built for holding station on stony stream beds. Published description notes describe a yellowish-brown ground colour with a single row of black spots running along the lateral line, and fins that are hyaline (clear/unpigmented) rather than carrying the banded or blotched patterns seen in some congeners — a comparatively plain fish among the genus's stream loaches.
As a nemacheilid it shares the family's general small-loach build: a nearly scaleless or fine-scaled skin, a subterminal mouth suited to picking food off the substrate, and barbels around the mouth for feeling out prey in turbid or fast water. Habitat

Feeding
