Taxonomy & naming
Traccatichthys zispi was described by the Russian ichthyologist A. M. Prokofyev in 2004 and placed in the genus Micronoemacheilus, of which it remains a member in the Catalog of Fishes, the current authority for valid fish names. The genus name is built from the Greek mikros, "small," prefixed to Noemacheilus, an older loach genus name (itself from the Greek noe- and machaira, roughly "sheath-blade," an allusion to loach body shape) — together signalling a small, Noemacheilus-like loach.
It sits in the family Nemacheilidae, the stone or brook loaches, the largest and most species-rich of the loach families, whose taxonomy has been repeatedly reshuffled as the old catch-all genera Nemacheilus and Noemacheilus were broken up into dozens of smaller genera such as Schistura, Triplophysa, Barbatula and Micronoemacheilus itself. Some regional literature and database entries render the genus as "Micronemacheilus" (without the second "o"); the two spellings refer to the same fish, and this article follows the Catalog of Fishes spelling, Micronoemacheilus.

Morphology
This is a small loach, reaching a reported maximum of about 2.8 in standard length. Like other nemacheilids it has an elongate, roughly cylindrical body suited to holding position in current, fleshy lips with papillae for grazing and sensing the streambed, and well-developed seismosensory canals on the head that let it detect vibration and flow in the water around it.
Adults show a longitudinal black-brown band running along the flanks, described as serrated or notched along its edge rather than a clean stripe; this marking is reported to be present in adults but not in juveniles. As with other nemacheilids, the skin carries only small, deeply embedded scales rather than the coarse scaling of many other fish groups, leaving it comparatively delicate and sensitive — a point that matters for anyone keeping it.
