Taxonomy & naming
This is an undescribed form: no scientific name, authority or type material stands behind it, and its identity and range are not documented in the sources the atlas uses. "Fletcher Creek" is a locality label. Imperial Tropicals calls it a currently unidentified rainbowfish and says it is likely the product of natural hybridization between its ancestor and Melanotaenia splendida, which the seller says reached the creek around 2015.
Morphology
Imperial Tropicals describes colour that ranges from olive green to neon yellow with mood, long black fins, olive-orange stripes and a golden shine.
Habitat
The seller names Fletcher Creek as the origin and gives no further data. Melanotaenia occur in Australia and New Guinea (genus-level).
Feeding
Melanotaenia are omnivores that take small invertebrates and plant matter (genus-level). Imperial Tropicals advises a quality flake with extra protein such as baby brine shrimp.
Mating
Melanotaenia are egg scatterers that spawn in plants (genus-level). Spawning of this form is not documented.
Breeding
No captive-breeding record for this form is held by the atlas.
In the aquarium
Imperial Tropicals describes the fish as omnivorous and says it should be fed a quality flake. No size or water figures are held by the atlas.
Conservation
No IUCN assessment exists for this undescribed form. Its range and numbers are not documented, so its conservation status cannot be stated.
