Taxonomy & naming
This is an undescribed form: no scientific name, authority or type material stands behind it, and its identity and range are not documented in the sources the atlas uses. "Kali Jamas" is a locality-style trade label, and the form is placed in Melanotaenia by the seller. Where it was collected, and which drainage it belongs to, is not documented in the atlas's sources.
Morphology
The Imperial Tropicals listing carries no description of body shape or colour that the atlas can repeat.
Habitat
The label points to a New Guinea collection locality. No drainage or coordinates are recorded. Melanotaenia as a genus is widespread across New Guinea and northern Australia.
Feeding
Rainbowfishes are omnivores that take small invertebrates and plant material (genus-level). Imperial Tropicals recommends a quality flake food with supplements such as baby brine shrimp.
Mating
Melanotaenia spawn over fine-leaved plants or spawning mops, with males displaying to females (genus-level).
Breeding
Imperial Tropicals says Melanotaenia deposit eggs in weedy areas, often mimicked by a yarn mop, and that eggs hatch 7 to 10 days later; eggs can be moved to a separate tank to avoid predation. This is a genus-level description from the seller.
In the aquarium
Imperial Tropicals says these fish need clean water but tolerate a wide variety of water parameters, and that frequent water changes bring nearly continuous spawning attempts. It lists no adult size or temperature range that the atlas holds.
Conservation
No IUCN assessment exists for this undescribed form. Its range and numbers are not documented, so its conservation status cannot be stated.
