It is the same species as Chindongo sp. "Elongatus Masimbwe", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Chindongo sp. "Elongatus Masimbwe" is an undescribed mbuna from the Masimbwe and Mbamba island group near Likoma, in the middle of Lake Malawi, part of the slender-bodied "elongatus complex" that gives the genus Chindongo its name and its most distinctive feature. It has never received a formal scientific description, and its colouration and biology beyond genus-typical expectations are not documented in the sources available here.
