The Chiwindi population
Chindongo sp. "Elongatus Spot" "Chiwindi" is the Chiwindi population of Chindongo sp. "Elongatus Spot", a geographic colour form from the Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi in the northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Chindongo sp. "Elongatus Spot", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Chindongo sp. 'elongatus spot' is an undescribed member of the slender-bodied 'elongatus' group of small mbuna, recorded from a handful of reefs near the Tanzania-Mozambique border in the northeastern part of Lake Malawi. Its trade name marks it as an elongatus-complex form distinguished by a discrete spot marking, geographically separate from Chindongo sp. 'elongatus mphanga,' which is documented far to the north near Chilumba. It has not been formally described.
