Cyathochromis obliquidens "Chiloelo" is the Chiloelo population of Cyathochromis obliquidens, a geographic colour form from the Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi in the south-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Cyathochromis obliquidens, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Cyathochromis obliquidens is a small mbuna cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi and its satellite waters, the only species in its genus. While most of Malawi's rock-dwelling cichlids rasp algae from stone, this one earns its name from slender, obliquely leaning teeth that comb loose algae off the leaves of submerged plants. It is a quiet, subtly marked fish whose place at the very edge of the mbuna radiation has made it a useful puzzle piece for biologists reconstructing how this explosive species flock evolved.
