The Londo Bay population
Gephyrochromis sp. "Sand" "Londo Bay" is the Londo Bay population of Gephyrochromis sp. "Sand", a geographic colour form from the Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Gephyrochromis sp. "Sand", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Gephyrochromis sp. "Sand" is an undescribed cichlid from the far south-eastern arm of Lake Malawi, recorded from a short stretch of shoreline spanning the Tanzania–Mozambique border — Undu Reef on the Tanzanian side, and Londo Bay and Wikihi on the Mozambican side. It belongs to one of the lake's smallest and least-studied cichlid genera: only two Gephyrochromis species, G. moorii and G. lawsi, have ever been formally described, both from the northern lake, and comparatively little fieldwork has focused on the genus since. The trade name "Sand" points to the habitat that sets this form apart from its rock-bound relatives — an association with open or sandy substrate rather than the tightly rocky habitat typical of the described Gephyrochromis species.
