The Lumessi population

Labidochromis sp. "Textilis Cobalt" "Lumessi" is the Lumessi population of Labidochromis sp. "Textilis Cobalt", a geographic colour form from the Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi in the south-central part of the lake. It is the same species as Labidochromis sp. "Textilis Cobalt", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Labidochromis sp. "Textilis Cobalt" is an undescribed rock-dwelling cichlid recorded from Lumessi, on Lake Malawi’s Mozambican shore — the same reef documented for the related trade form Labidochromis sp. "Textilis Blue," suggesting more than one distinct deep-water colour form is collected from that single locality. Both belong to a loosely defined group of blue-bodied Labidochromis informally referred to under the “textilis” trade name, none of which has ever been given a formal scientific description. It carries no authority, no year, and no FishBase entry.
