"Deep-water Altus", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Lethrinops sp. "Deep-water Altus", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Lethrinops sp. "Deep-water Altus" is an undescribed sand-dwelling cichlid recorded in Lake Malawi's South East Arm, named for its resemblance to the described species Lethrinops altus combined with a deeper depth range than that species typically occupies. It has no formal description, authority, or FishBase entry, and is one of several "deep-water" trade names applied within the genus to populations resembling shallower described species but recorded from greater depth.
