The Maleri Island population
Maylandia sp. "Dumpy" "Maleri Island" is the Maleri Island population of Maylandia sp. "Dumpy", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Maylandia sp. "Dumpy", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Maylandia sp. "Dumpy" is an undescribed mbuna cichlid recorded from Maleri Island and Nakantenga Island in south-central Lake Malawi, part of the well-studied Maleri island group. Its trade name points to body shape rather than colour — a notably stout, deep-bodied build compared with the more slender standard for the genus. It has never been given a scientific name, and its exact relationship to the several other described and undescribed Maylandia populations sharing the same island group has not been settled by any published study.
