The Cape Kaiser population

Maylandia sp. "Kingsizei Lupingu" "Cape Kaiser" is the Cape Kaiser population of Maylandia sp. "Kingsizei Lupingu", a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Malawi in the far northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Maylandia sp. "Kingsizei Lupingu", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Maylandia sp. "Kingsizei Lupingu" is an undescribed mbuna cichlid recorded from Cape Kaiser and Lupingu on the Tanzanian shore of Lake Malawi. It belongs to the "kingsizei" trade group — a set of related field forms reported in the aquarium and field literature to grow unusually large for the genus — and is distinguished from its close relatives elsewhere in the lake by its own locality, Lupingu. It has never been given a scientific name.
