The Lundu population
Mylochromis sp. "Lateristriga Makanjila" "Lundu" is the Lundu population of Mylochromis sp. "Lateristriga Makanjila", a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Malawi in the northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Mylochromis sp. "Lateristriga Makanjila", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Mylochromis sp. 'lateristriga makanjila' is an undescribed sand- and transition-zone haplochromine recorded at scattered localities spanning much of Lake Malawi's eastern side, from Makanjila Bay in the southeast to the Tanzanian border in the north. Its trade name links it to the described species Mylochromis lateristriga, whose own name references a stripe running the length of the flank, and 'Makanjila' marks the reef cluster most closely associated with this particular form. It has not been formally described.
