Neolamprologus modestus "Singa Island" is the Singa Island population of Neolamprologus modestus, a geographic colour form from the Tanzania coast of Lake Tanganyika in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Neolamprologus modestus, distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Neolamprologus modestus is a plain-jacketed lamprologine cichlid endemic to the southern reaches of Lake Tanganyika, where it ranks among the most common and unfussy fishes on the rocky and intermediate shore. Its name means "modest," and it earns it: a cream-to-brown fish of roughly 5 inches that broods in caves and tends its young as a pair or small harem. What makes it quietly interesting is its place in a set of geographic 'counterpart' species — it stands in, in the south, for the nearly identical Neolamprologus mondabu that occupies the rest of the lake.
