Placidochromis sp. "White-orange Dorsal" "Nkhata Bay" is the Nkhata Bay population of Placidochromis sp. "White-orange Dorsal", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the central part of the lake. It is the same species as Placidochromis sp. "White-orange Dorsal", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Placidochromis sp. "White-orange Dorsal" is an undescribed sand-dwelling cichlid recorded from Nkhata Bay on the north-central shore of Lake Malawi. Its trade name is a literal description of the one feature collectors consistently report: a dorsal fin that runs white toward the front and orange toward the rear in colored-up males, a pattern used to separate it from the several other blue-toned Placidochromis-type haps also taken at Nkhata Bay. It has never been given a formal scientific name, and no authority, IUCN status, or FishBase entry should be attached to it.
