Sciaenochromis sp. "Psammophilus Broad" "Youngs Bay" is the Youngs Bay population of Sciaenochromis sp. "Psammophilus Broad", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the far northern part of the lake. It is the same species as Sciaenochromis sp. "Psammophilus Broad", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species

Sciaenochromis sp. "Psammophilus Broad" is an undescribed predatory cichlid recorded from Youngs Bay on Lake Malawi, associated in field references with the described sand-dwelling species S. psammophilus but distinguished by a broader body or head. It belongs to the same small genus of open-water hunters as the widely traded electric-blue S. fryeri; no authority, formal description or conservation status attaches to it, and precise coordinates for the Youngs Bay record are not available.
