Spectracanthicus is a genus of small armored catfishes in family Loricariidae, native to Brazil. Like other loricariids, they have a bony, plated body and a sucker-like mouth used to graze algae and biofilm from rocks and submerged wood in flowing water, a body plan shared across the wider pleco family.
In the hobby, members of the genus circulate mostly as L-numbered imports rather than under settled common names - Spectracanthicus immaculatus (L269) and Spectracanthicus zuanoni (L020) are traded by their collection codes, alongside the mouse-grey Spectracanthicus (S. murinus) and the spotted pleco (S. punctatissimus). Wild population data is limited for the genus as a whole: the atlas records two species as Least Concern while flagging two others for CARES conservation priority, so careful sourcing and captive breeding matter here as with many collection-coded plecos.
